Job Roles

Sound Designer/Editor

The specifications for this job are

  • Creating and record sound effects for productions such as gun shots , explosions , and general post production sounds .
  • Ambient sounds
  • Managing and editing sound in post production

I am comparing the two dream jobs i would like to do in the future .
They are different in aspects such as Sound Designer is more audio and Film editor would be visual.
A Sound Designer would work with the Director but would not necessarily have a team of assistants

Sound Designer qualities that would be needed....
I would need to pay close attention to detail to mixing, recording and editing sound.  An excellent knowledge of computers and sound editing software are a necessary requirement. It would help to think quickly and be a good problem solver.
I think i am suited to a sound engineers job because i have good creative and computer knowledge , but need to develop sound and editing aspects . I would like to gain more experience in this area .
The usual routes are highlighted from the industry association (ASD) in the link below

Film Editor

The specifications for this job are
  • working closely with the director to edit the completed film
  • Working long hours using editing software
  • running a team of assistants and trainees

The work plays to my strengths:

  • Editing software
  • Attention to detail
  • Resourceful
  • strong visual memory
I think I have strong editing skills which I can further develop if I were to become a member of a film or television production team. This has been demonstrated in my media project .
To progress to this job i would  initially seek a job within the industry as a Runner . Having completed level three second year in media , and then progressed to a relevant course at university .

I am dedicated to getting things right and I am extremely flexible about the possible long hours that are required in production.
