Pre-Production
I originally intended to have the film set on a plane , which the college has the set for ,unfortunately this was unavailable. I also intended to film in the science lab ,but as I was unable to use the plane my script had to be modified . My original idea was a bit complicated and it needed simplifying , so it was more in line with the brief . I did a recce of multiple locations including the green screen room , office , my house , all of which were internal . I eventually settled on filming at my house , I decided this because my script had a toy gun in it and i would be unable to film it at college due to this being against college policy . I realised filming in my home would be difficult as the lighting would be inconsistent in certain rooms at different times of day . If i had been filming at the front of the house in the morning to get the same level of light i would have to wait until the afternoon to film at the back of the house to get the same level . I would be unable to use ceiling lights because I wanted a more natural effect. If I had been filming at college i would have had the artificial lighting , and I would have had access to a microphone which would have enabled me to use more dialogue
Production
For my film i decided to play all the characters myself with one exception the radio man which i recorded using another students voce
the filming was difficult for many reasons one of which was the lighting. Filming at different time of the day caused the lighting to be inconsistent. If i was going to do this project again i would film using artificial light but this was not possible in this location filming because I was filming at my house i would have to film elsewhere. Another challenge was the fight scene because i was playing both characters there was a lot of work to match up the 2 shots for example when I changed character and when i was opting the camera the door moved slightly which was noticeable when edited together. The solution I found was to secure with a door stop. the lighting was a bit inconsistent but it is a bit better once i reshot the scene.
The shot types it used were extreme close ups,mid shot and close ups. If i was going to film again i would have a camera man to film more shot types for example a tracking shot. This shot was not possible because I was the actors and the camera man. I had to cut most of the dialogue from the script because the film did not need that much information for the viewer. The main edit was the dialogue from the man stealing the documents from Incognito. I cut this due to the lack of footage to go along with it and it would have taken away the suspense. I did record several voices saying different dialogue for the intro, but this became irrelevant to the bigger picture I was attempting to create.
Post-Production
Post production I decided to use after effects to merge the two video clips I recorded together which I played both of the characters. I used the Roto brush tool to select the character in the chair then I entered the second footage which i filmed all in the same spot using a tripod. The second footage I inserted the character on top of the footage then overlapped a green screen gunshot copyright free effect. I created a timer to symbolise the urgency and timescale of the movie. This I did on Premier Pro, but had to add each minute manually. I inserted black bars to create a cinematic view, this added to the atmosphere of an action movie feel.
I disliked the intro scene because the graph line I created on Photoshop I selected the wrong brush tool to create it and only found out it was fuzzy when I exported and inserted it into after effects.. I exported the image as 4K resolution from Photoshop to eliminate the pixilation of the text when I zoomed into the image to create a tracking shot of the graph line.
At 0:43 seconds there is an overlap of the gunshot after effect on the character that slides down the wall which I only realised when I exported it. This distracts the viewer from an otherwise realistic effect.
I ended up shooting the film several times due to the imperfect merging of the clips together. For example, in the fight scene there was the door being in a slightly different position in each shot when I changed mask and walked past the door. The lighting was a challenge because I wanted a consistent time frame.
